19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
It is the player's initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.
Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.
His defensive approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.
But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an better service.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to create a third set.
The opponent defended four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
