Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative said the attack made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
